Young Singers Aim To Tackle Loneliness Among Elderly

Youth choir

Young singers from the Harrogate community will be helping to tackle loneliness among the elderly at a concert in the town this month.

Rock Up and Sing!’s Youth Choir will be performing at St Peter’s Church to raise money for Supporting Older People, a charity which works to reduce isolation among the elderly. It offers trips out, regular meet-ups and home visits for people across the Harrogate district.

Choir director Rhiannon Gayle said:

“Loneliness and isolation are real problems for many elderly people in the Harrogate area and it’s only through the work of charities like Supporting Older People that those issues are tackled so effectively.

“Our Youth Choir members are very keen to show their support for older members of the community and help to tackle the problems they face by taking part in this concert. Supporting Older People also has its own singing group, which is a very popular way for older people to socialise and have fun – something all our choir members can appreciate.”

Accompanied by pianist Katie Bell, the Youth Choir will perform a range of rock and pop songs including Proud, Your Song, Life in a Northern Town and Hey Soul Sister. The concert, which takes place at St Peter’s Church on Saturday, September 27 at 7.30pm, will also feature Harrogate Male Voice Choir.

Tickets are £10, including refreshments, and available by calling Rock Up and Sing! on 01423 508500. Alternatively, call Supporting Older People on 01423 531490, or buy tickets in person at Pomp & Circumstance at 22 Commercial Street.
