How easy is it to get on and off a stairlift?

Getting on and off a stairlift is generally simple for most users and is comparable to using a standard dining chair in your home. The association between a stairlift and a dining chair is due to its similarities in the seating height and depth.

The stairlift features sturdy arm rests on both sides which are set at a suitable height. These arm rests not only act as a safety feature but also offer support when alighting the chair. The seat height is similar to your typical dining chair and is usually set at 20" - this can be decreased or heightened to suit the needs of the user.

All stairlifts come equipped with a swivel seat that enables the user to rotate the chair 90°. This feature is generally used at the top of the stairs allowing easier access to the landing area. Once swivelled, the chair locks in place to allow safe alighting. Once off the chair, it can be kept in 90° position for later use, or can be folded against the wall.
